Character Sheet

A few days ago I posted a character building exercise, and I just finished adding the finishing touches to my characters' character sheets. Anyway, I thought that just for the heck of it I'd post the character sheet for Janice, the main character in my NaNoWriMo story.

Well here it is I hope you like it, and please feel free to give suggestions or comments.



Name: Janice Phillips (aka Jenifer Malthus)

Age: 21

Height: 5’5”

Eye color: Ice Blue

Physical appearance: Human appearance- skinny, muscular, scars on her arm, short blond hair
Tiger appearance- furry, muscular, white hair with black stripes

Strange or unique physical attributes: She can turn into a tiger

Favorite clothing style/outfit: casual/ comfortable, but no matter what she’s wearing it need to have long sleeves so that they cover the claw scars on her right arm. She likes to wear smooth light fabrics that don’t rub her wrong. She normally wears blue jeans that aren’t too tight and a belt. She always wears a neck pouch with her wallet and cell phone in it (the cord is long enough that it stays on when she changes).

Where does he or she live? What is it like there? She lives in the dorms at her college. There’s a park across the street.

Defining gestures/movements (i.e., curling his or her lip when he or she speaks, always keeping his or her eyes on the ground, etc.): She has very fluid movements that resembles those of a cat. She’s a very shy, timid loner, but whenever she locks eyes with someone she won’t back down (unless of course it’s Adam).

Things about his or her appearance he or she would most like to change: The scars on her right arm

Speaking style (fast, talkative, monotone, etc.): quietly, quickly, knowledgably

Pet peeves: Doesn’t like crowds, prefers to be alone, doesn’t like doors to be opened for her

Fondest memory: Any memories of her mother

Hobbies/interests: Weaving, knitting, making yarn, sewing

Special skills/abilities: She can turn into a tiger

Insecurities: She’s worried about being around people

Quirks/eccentricities: always has to be doing things with her hands and is a perfectionist

Temperament (easygoing, easily angered, etc.): shy, easygoing, uptight, vicious

Negative traits: she sometimes kills people

Things that upset him or her: men opening doors

Things that embarrass him or her: people seeing her necked, people seeing her as a tiger, not being able to stop herself from going after people

Character is highly opinionated about: Criminals

Things that make him or her happy: running, exercising, swimming, spending time with Tolya

Family (describe): Janice’s mother is dead and her birth father was gone before she was born.
Adam Phillips- Adam is an ex-soldier who married Janice’s mother when Janice was 13. Even though he is Janice’s step-father he stuck around after her mother died and raised Janice. Before they ran away he had frequent clashes with Michele and the Malthus’ because he thought that they were a bad influence on Janice and were going to get her hurt. Adam’s willing to do what ever it takes to keep Janice safe even if that means keeping her away from other people.
Adriana Malthus- Janice’s aunt, and the leader of the Malthus family pack. Janice’s mother was pack leader, but Adriana killed her in mortal combat and replaced her. Michele refused to let Adriana kill Janice, and ever since Adriana has viewed Janice as a threat to her position as pack leader. As pack leader Adriana also holds the position as Michele’s body guard and lover. She is devoted to Michele and would gladly die to protect him or kill anyone who shows an interest in him.
Janice is a member of the Malthus family. The Malthus family is comprised of the female descendants of one of the 10 women that Michele originally cursed. Since tigers don’t mate for life other than Michele there are no adult males in the family.

Deepest, darkest secret: She and Adam are on the run from her family.

Reason he or she kept this secret for so long: Because she’s trying to start over and if her family ever finds them they’ll kill Adam

Other people's opinions of this character (What do people like about this character? What do they dislike about this character?): Most people think that Janice is very quite and timid, but her friends know that when she has to be she can be down right viscous. People think that the way that she likes to keep to herself is a little strange, and they find the way she holds their gaze unsettling.
Katya- She loves how random Janice is, and she is forever trying to find the reason behind Janice’s actions. She knows that it’s there she just hasn’t found it yet.
Tolya- He’s never met anyone like her, and he is fascinated by her. Even more than the fact that she can turn into a 300 lb Bengal tiger he is taken aback by how giving she is. He accepts that she’s not a trusting person, but he’s willing to work to gain that trust.
Adam- He loves her like she were his own daughter, and he finds her gentile nature encouraging. However, he lives in fear of the day that the Tiger comes out.
Michele- He likes how understated she is. She never showed a desire to become the alpha, but before she left the other tigers her age naturally looked to her for leaderships.
Adriana- She knows that Janice is stronger than she appears, and she remembers how the others naturally looked to her for guidance. She thinks that Janice is destined to be pack leader, and that scares her.

Favorite bands/songs/type of music: Anything fast, and she likes modern music with “tribal” beats.

Favorite movies: Ladyhawk, Underworld, the Outsider

Favorite TV shows: Science fiction

Favorite books: craft books

Favorite foods: Salads and red meat

Favorite sports/sports teams: swimming, marshal arts, running, triathlons,

Political views: Democrat/ Independent

Religion/philosophy of life: not involved in organized religion, and believes that people are the closest to God when they are in nature

Physical health: physically fit with extremely sharp senses

Dream vacation: Spending a week camping by a lake out in the middle of nowhere

Description of his or her house: A rebuilt farmhouse with five large bedrooms and a porch. It’s out in the middle of nowhere surrounded by trees and bushes, and there is a barn next to the property. Adam ripped down the house and rebuilt it with a cement base so that it would hold up her weight as a tiger. Adam retrofitted the barn on the property as a tiger habitat, so that she’ll be comfortable their both as a tiger and as a human.

Description of his or her bedroom: It’s a decent sized dorm room. There’s a bed, a bedside table with a fountain on it, a dresser with a TV on it, a desk, lots of plants, tapestries on the wall. In the closet there’s a box, and in the box there are synthetic sheepskins that she sleeps on when she can’t sleep as a human.

Any pets? She gets a falcon at the end of the book.

Best thing that has ever happened to this character: Meeting Katya and starting to tutor the foreign exchange students, and then more recently meeting Tolya.

Worst thing that has ever happened to this character: When her mother died, and when she killed someone when she was 16.

Superstitions: She believes in magic, which isn’t surprising since her best friend is a witch.

Three words to describe this character: scared, helpful, powerful
