Official Kissing Day: Part 2

Here we are, Part 2 of Official Kissing Day! Man, I thought for sure I wouldn't be able to come through for you guys on this one, I was having a heck of a time writing a kissing scene to share with you, but luckily, I found one, just in time! The following scene is actually not a current WIP, but one that I started last year and just stumbled across less then five minutes ago on my computer when I was browsing through some of my old stories. I had a blast writing this scene at the time, so I hope you enjoy, and feedback would be much appreciated!

It is the end of another long workday and my feet are screaming with exhaustion, but before I sit down at the stool perched in front of the counter to relieve them, I slip behind the counter and survey the display cabinet situated above a long counter. There is an assortment of viles filled with curious colored liquids, various flavors of tea and herbs, and, finally, the one thing in the display that I have been eying since I entered the shop earlier this morning: a gold, medium-sized, square box tied securely with a wine colored ribbon in the shape of a bow. It sits safely propped up on the middle shelf of the display, its face staring straight at me.

I begin to reach for the box, then pause, my hand suspended in mid air as I glance quickly over my shoulder to check for certain that I am alone. I stand stalk still, holding my breath and straining to hear any sounds of uninvited guests. When I am sure that I am, in fact, the only one present in the shop, I allow my body and senses to relax as I reach up and claim my prize. My mouth waters as I bring the box down to eye level and gaze at the delicate gold etchings decorating its face. Then, slowly, lovingly, I untie the ribbon as if I am handling a precious jewel and remove the lid: inside, the most succulent, forbidden array of chocolates that I have ever seen in my life are revealed to me. Milk and dark chocolate squares filled with butter cream, strawberry, orange, caramel and chocolate mousse, fill the box, each secured snugly in their own individual divider.

My hand hovers for a moment above the box as I ponder my decision and then select a butter cream chocolate. I pluck it out of the box with two fingers and bring it to my lips, the anticipation of the first bite making my mouth water, and bite down. An explosion of flavor erupts in my mouth and a long sigh of pleasure escapes my lips as I close my eyes and savor the moment. Suddenly, my eyes snap open in alarm as I am interrupted in pursuing my guilty pleasure by the tinkling of the bell above the door of the shop, signaling the arrival of a customer. I quickly swallow the chunk of chocolate still in my mouth, put the half eaten piece back inside the box, replace the lid and shove the box and the crumpled ribbon onto a shelf below the display cabinet.

I whip around to face the newcomer, blocking the incriminating evidence from view. “I-I’m very sorry,” I stutter, a sure sign of my guilt, “but we’re closed for the evening. Please feel free to come back tomorrow when we’re-Samuel!” My heart melts and my knees turn to absolute mush as my eyes come to rest on the most beautiful sight I’ve seen all day: Samuel, the love of my life, (and my older brother Arthur’s best friend), stands in the doorway, smiling his sweet, angelic smile, his clear blue eyes crinkling at the edges, making me have to exercise all the self restraint I posses to not run to him and never let him go.
“What are you doing here?” I ask in a loud whisper, fighting to keep the happiness I feel from seeping out of me and into my tone.
“Now, is that any way to treat your gentlemen caller?” Sam teases, false hurt in his voice.
“I’m sorry, but what if someone sees you?” I ask, real panic in my voice now.
“And what if they don’t?” he asks, grinning, as he makes his way across the room toward me.
“And what if they do?” I plead, unable to let the subject drop. “Sam, please, my brother and grandmother will be back any moment! If they catch us together, I…I don’t know what I’ll do! I’ll-”
“You’ll close your pretty little mouth…” he whispers as he comes around behind the counter and faces me, cupping my face in his hands. “And let me kiss you.”

He closes the gap between us with his mouth, pressing his lips against mine, softly at first and then with more pressure, deepening the kiss until all I can think about is his soft skin against mine, the heat of his mouth, and the love that I feel for him seeping out of my bones. I let my eyes flutter closed, never wanting this moment to end-
The bell above the door sounds, causing us to break apart and for the moment to end, readying me to face what will surely be my doom…

Aw, I want to know what happens next, and I agree with Jessica and Medeia, what a jerk of a bell, it just had to ring right in the middle of the kiss. Stupid bell.
