I’ve been told teaching, like motherhood, is all about appearances. If you want to be effective you have to be above reproach, in every sense. However, I’m not a mother, so the analogy only goes so far with me.
For me, teaching is like gambling. You gamble on the lesson, the class… yourself. When inquiring minds want to know your personal life has to be the ultimate trifecta.
1. If it buzzed anti-miasma would be the buzz word. To oscitate in public would be to perish, and if you don’t want a parent to read about it on the front page don’t do it.
2. Even synchronicity can be a sin. Teachers are more like a pride of lionesses than a kangaroo court, but then again lions aren’t known for being meek and forgiving.
3. And lacunas are your friend. Doing what makes you you doesn’t make you a bad teacher, but there are things that don’t belong in the classroom. Sometimes having a personal life with more missing pieces than a broken mirror isn’t a bad thing.
