What's Up Monday

What I'm Reading
I'm still listening to the audiobook version of In A Glass Grimmly by Adam Gidwitz, but I'm almost finished and it's so entertaining that I don't want it to end! :( Luckily though, I still have book 3 to look forward to! :)

What I'm Writing
From what I can remember, I'm pretty sure I did okay with last week's goals but since I wasn't keeping track of my daily progress, by the end of week I started to forget exactly what I had accomplished!  So, to fix this, I've decided (as much as I hate making schedules during summer vacation-I make enough of those during the school year for my college classes!) that instead of trying to stick with the same set of vague daily goals for the entire Ready. Set. Write! summer intensive, I'm going to take a page from Jaime Morrow's book and start making a weekly schedule for everything I want to accomplish each week.

I think by doing this I'll be able to keep much better track of my goals, plus, it always feels great when I get to cross something off a To Do list, especially when it comes to writing! :)  Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that I decided to participate in July's Camp NaNoWriMo (my username is breezysea23 if you want to add me as a friend!) to give myself extra motivation to finish writing my WIP (oh, and just so you don't get confused, I'm no longer working on 2 WIPs at the same time like I talked about last week.  WIP #1 was what I was working on in my Book in a Month Club class taught by the lovely Candace Havens, but since the class ended on the 4th, I decided to put WIP #1 aside to focus entirely on #2 for Camp NaNo).  So, with that said, here are my Ready. Set. Write! goals for this week:

Monday, July 8th
  • Write 250+ words on WIP
  • Exercise for 20 minutes
Tuesday, July 9th
  • Write 250+ words on WIP
Wednesday. July 10th
  • Write 250+ words on WIP
  • Exercise for 20 minutes
Thursday, July 11
  • Write 250+ words on WIP
Friday, July 12th
  • Write 250+ words on WIP
  • Exercise for 20 minutes
Saturday, July 13th
  • DAY OFF
Sunday, July 14
  • Write 250+ words
  • Exercise for 20 minutes

What Else I've Been Up To
Honestly, outside of writing, nothing too exciting.  Right now I'm just trying to enjoy summer as much as I can before I have to start school again in August, boo! :P

What Inspires Me Right Now
Recently, I watched a movie called Stoker and am STILL thinking about it! It was a psychological thriller that was, well...Not for the faint of heart. It was twisted, disturbing, and almost too dark for me to handle at times, but the ways in which this movie was shot were gorgeous, a real treat for the eyes. This was one of the strangest, creepiest movies I've seen in a while and I found it ...hard to go to sleep after watching it, but the twisty plot and complex characters (Matthew Goode, you were an amazing villain, but why do you have to be so good looking? That fact alone made it very hard for me to hate your character!) kept me on the edge of my seat and made me realize that I would love to try writing a YA Psychological Thriller of my own someday! Thanks to Michelle Zink for the awesome move recommendation!

Also, while I'm trying to focus my attention primarily on my WIP, which I think would be considered a YA Fantasy/Paranormal, that hasn't stopped me from beginning to brainstorm what I think my next project is going to be, which is a YA Horror!  So, to gain inspiration for this future project, in addition to Stoker, I've been watching a lot of Paranormal/Thriller/Horror shows, a few of which are Paranormal Witness and The Dead Files, such good T.V. and sooo creepy! I <3 it! :)

See you next week!

Best of luck with all your writing (and exercising) goals!

YA Horror sounds like a lot of fun, as does the research. Enjoy.

Go you! I also have writing and workout goals--I keep a dry-erase calendar in my office with R___ and W___ on each day (Run and Write, with a blank for an X, a check, or a star depending on whether I missed, met, or exceeded my goals.) Keep writing and working out!

Good luck meeting your goals! I tend to set more of the vague "write a bunch" type goals, but understand sometimes they can leave you feeling like nothing was accomplished. Hopefully, you'll be able to have a fun summer and meet the rest of your goals.

I like the idea of organizing goals by days of the week. I might just have to try that in the future. Best of luck meeting those goals in the coming days!

Great goals for the week! I wish I could get more organized like that, but I also know myself and I do work better with weekly goals instead of daily. I hope it works well for you! And I hope you have a most productive week!
