Here is the "hook" for Monstrous. I know what I'm trying to do, but I'd be interested in hearing what you get from this without knowing the book's back story.
Love is a disgusting, repulsive thing, and I struggled to hold on to that as his words brushed against my neck, overwhelming. “I love you.”

I don't see it as a hook. But I do see it as interesting enough that I'd want to read on (so, maybe, that means it works as a hook).
